Vallecas [ baˈʎekas ] is a district in the southeast of Madrid . Until its incorporation in 1950, Vallecas was an independent village. The district is now administratively divided into the two districts of Puente de Vallecas with 228,803 inhabitants and Villa de Vallecas with 98,699 inhabitants (as of 2014).

geography

Vallecas is located in the south-east of Madrid and is bordered to the west and south by the Manzanares , to the north by the M-30 motorway and to the east by the Autovía A-3 .

history

Vallecas was first mentioned in 1202 by Alfonso VIII . On December 22, 1950, Vallecas, which at that time comprised 86,000 inhabitants on 72.36 km², was incorporated into Madrid.

Sports

The football club Rayo Vallecano , which plays its home games in Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas , will play in the Segunda División , the second highest Spanish division , in the 2019/20 season . In 2000/01 , the club reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup .

Culture

The ska-punk band Ska-P comes from Vallecas.
