Gerhard Poschner (born September 23, 1969 in Dumitra , Bistrița-Năsăud district , Romania ) is a former German football player . His greatest success was winning the DFB Cup with VfB Stuttgart in 1997 . There are also three European finals in the UEFA Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup with Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund .

Player career

VfB Stuttgart

Gerhard Poschner moved with his family to Bietigheim-Bissingen in 1974 , where he began his career in the E-Jugend of SpVgg Bissingen. At the age of 13 he switched to the youth team of VfB Stuttgart and became a professional there in 1987 at the age of 17: On the 3rd match day of the 1987/88 season he made his debut in the Bundesliga on August 15, 1987 ; in the 6-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach , Poschner came on for Jürgen Hartmann in the 88th minute . Further short assignments followed in the course of the season. On September 2, 1987, when they met Werder Bremen , the defensive player was in the starting line-up for the first time. With Maurizio Gaudino , Karl Allgöwer and Hartmann, Poschner had great competition in the Swabian midfield. When the situation did not improve significantly in the following season and other competitors caught the attention of players like Rainer Schütterle , Michael Schröder and Ásgeir Sigurvinsson , Poschner decided to move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 1990 . The greatest success of VfB during this time was in 1988/89 the final participation in the UEFA Cup. However , Poschner was only a spectator when SSC Napoli won , as he was not taken into account at the time.

Borussia Dortmund

He made the final breakthrough in his new club and formed the basic structure in Dortmund's midfield with Michael Rummenigge and Michael Zorc . In 1992/93 he moved with the team to the final of the UEFA Cup . After the first and second leg, however, it was lost 6-1 to Juventus Turin . Poschner played in both games for the full playing time. After four years at BVB and the 1991/92 runner-up , the midfielder moved back to Stuttgart for the 1994/95 season .

VfB Stuttgart (from 1994)

Poschner was one of the most important pillars of the team for the next four years. With 32 league games in his comeback season, he had only one less than regular goalkeeper Eike Immel . By the end of the 1997/98 season , Poschner never made less than 28 league appearances. He won the DFB Cup against Energie Cottbus in 1997 and made it to the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1998 , which his club lost to Chelsea . In the following season he was successively ousted by the seven years younger Hungarian Krisztián Lisztes .

Further career

Already during the winter break he looked for a new club and signed with AC Venice in Italy. Poschner suffered a metatarsal fracture in the first game and was out for a long time; in addition, the game was canceled shortly after his departure due to fog. Poschner only made his only rated appearance in Serie A in the last game of the season . Both parties separated again after six months, Poschner moved to Spain to Rayo Vallecano . When promoted to the Primera División Poschner found back to old strength. The club reached ninth place, the following year in fourteenth place. In June 2001 he was signed by the Austrian club Rapid Vienna , but went back to Spain after six months and joined the then second division team Polideportivo Ejido . During the winter break of the 2003/04 season, TSV 1860 Munich , where he played four matches, brought him into the Bundesliga for half a year. Poschner played his last professional game on February 21, 2004 against VfL Wolfsburg .

In the Bundesliga, the midfielder played a total of 290 games and scored 22 goals.

After the playing career

Poschner initially worked as a player observer and advisor. He looked after former Bundesliga players such as Ewerthon and Marko Babić .

From August 8, 2009 to May 22, 2010, Gerhard Poschner was General Director of the Spanish first division promoted Real Saragossa . He was already available to the association as an external advisor. In the run-up to the 2009/10 season, he committed u. a. Jermaine Pennant , Ikechukwu Uche and Juan Pablo Carrizo .

On April 11, 2014, Poschner took over as the successor to Florian Hinterberger as head of sports at the second division TSV 1860 Munich . After the 2014/15 season, he was blamed for the team's poor performance and relieved of the duties of managing director and appointed sports director. Therefore Poschner resigned in July 2015 without notice.

In the meantime Poschner appears again as a player advisor. He acted as an advisor to the player during the transfer of Jorge Meré from Sporting Gijón to 1. FC Köln .
