SOCAN
The SOCAN (fr. "La Société canadienne des auteurs, compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique", English. "The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada") is a Canadian society that the rights of currently about 80,000 composers, musicians , Copywriters and publishers.
The main task of SOCAN is to collect license fees for publicly performing and broadcasting the music of its members. This income is distributed as a fee to the artists and publishers, the owners of the rights.
SOCAN has only existed since 1990 and is a merger of two older organizations that were originally closely associated with the two American collecting societies ASCAP and BMI .
