Marko Babić (born January 21, 1981 in Osijek , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian football player .
Career
Marko Babić first played for NK Osijek, with whom he won the Croatian Football Cup in 1999. In 1999 he moved to the German Bundesliga for Bayer 04 Leverkusen . With Leverkusen he reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2002 , but lost it 1: 2 to Real Madrid . In the same year he was German runner-up and second in the DFB Cup with his club . After 144 Bundesliga games and 13 goals, Babić left Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the end of the 2006/2007 season and moved to Betis Sevilla . There he could not assert himself.
At the beginning of 2009 he switched to Hertha BSC , where he signed a contract until the end of the season and was supposed to fix the personnel problems on the left. The club had a unilateral option to extend this contract, which was not used. Instead, Babić moved to Real Zaragoza . Even with the Spanish first division club Babic could not prevail, so that the club decided to dissolve the contract with the Croat. After Babić was without a contract for half a year, he rejoined NK Osijek . He played there until the summer of 2012 and was then without a club again. At the beginning of 2013 he signed a contract with the Austrian regional league team LASK Linz . After he left Linz at the end of June 2013, he ended his career.
Babić played for the Croatian national team from 2002 to 2008 . He was also in the squad for the 2004 European Championships and the 2006 World Cup . At the World Cup, Babić was used in all three group matches.
