Jermaine Lloyd Pennant (born January 15, 1983 in Nottingham ) is an English football player of Jamaican descent .

Club career

At the age of 15, Pennant left his home club Notts County and moved to Arsenal for € 3 million . He made his professional debut for London on November 30, 1999 in a League Cup match against Middlesbrough FC . Pennant was the youngest player ever to appear for the Arsenal first team, at 16 years and 319 days. In the meantime, however, this record has been broken by Cesc Fàbregas . In the coming months Pennant was used in the League Cup, but his debut in the Premier League was not made for the time being.

In order to collect match practice, he was loaned to Watford FC for a month at the beginning of 2002 , for which he played several games in the Football League First Division , the then second highest English league. After returning to Arsenal , Pennant made his Premier League debut on August 24, 2002 when he was substituted on for a game against West Ham United .

At the end of 2002 Pennant was loaned out again to Watford FC . After returning to Arsenal in February 2003, he started in London for the first time in May 2003. Pennant had a brilliant debut in the 6-1 win against Southampton FC and scored 3 goals. However, these should remain the only hits in his time for the "Gunners". For the 2003/04 season Pennant was awarded again, this time to Leeds United . The loan deal, originally designed for two months, was successively extended until May 2004.

In February 2005, Pennant was loaned to Birmingham City , who put him under permanent contract in April 2005, despite his traffic offenses and the resulting imprisonment. In the team of his new employer he was a fixture in the right attacking midfield and played all 38 Premier League games for Birmingham in the 2005/06 season , but could not prevent relegation to the Football League Championship .

On July 26, 2006 Pennant moved to Liverpool FC , where he signed for four years. For the Reds he ran u. a. in the 2007 Champions League final , in which Liverpool lost to AC Milan . After Pennant came to only three appearances in the Premier League in the 08/09 season , he was loaned to Portsmouth FC on January 20 .

For the 09/10 season Pennant moved to the Spanish first division club Real Saragossa . There he played 25 games in the Primera División in his first year . On August 31, 2010, Jermaine Pennant moved to the English first division club Stoke City for six months .

National team career

Despite discipline problems, Pennant played 24 games for the England U-21 national team , including three games at the 2002 U-21 European Championship in Switzerland . This makes him one of the five players with the most appearances for the English U-21 team.

Jermaine Pennant has not yet played for the English national team.

Others

Pennant was sentenced to 16 months' license suspension in 2004 after driving on the wrong lane in London. On January 23, 2005, he was again in a traffic control in London , where an increased alcohol level was found. Pennant had not yet obtained a driver's license and was sentenced to 90 days in prison for drunk driving. Of those 90 days, he served a total of 30 days and was then paroled . After his release from custody, he was forced to wear an electronic ankle cuff , which he was not allowed to take off on the square.
