Shanice Janice van de Sanden (born October 2, 1992 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch national football player of Surinamese descent.

Club career

Van de Sanden played in the youth of VVIJ from her hometown IJsselstein before moving to SV Saestum . At the Hoofdklasse club from Zeist , the striker initially played in the male B youth team, but was also used in the women's first team in the 2008/09 season. Honorary division FC Utrecht , who works closely with SV Saestum, became aware of the young player and brought her to his team in 2009. In the Eredivisie, she scored four goals in 15 games in the 2009/10 season. For the 2010/11 season she moved to league rivals SC Heerenveen , and a year later to FC Twente. From 2016 to 2017 she played for Liverpool . She has been under contract with Olympique Lyon since 2017 .

National team

Shanice van de Sanden made her debut in the senior national team at the age of 16 . Bondscoach Vera Pauw had become aware of her through her games for Saestum and Utrecht and called her to her team in December 2008. In the friendly against France , she wore the Oranje jersey for the first time in a 2-0 win . She scored her first goal for the Netherlands at the Cyprus Women's Cup on March 12, 2009; she contributed the fourth goal to the 5-0. By August 2009, she came to nine internationals in Orange , in which she scored two goals. She was called up as the youngest player in the Dutch squad for the European Championship finals in Finland, which “felt like a dream” for her. At the tournament she was the second youngest participant after the Ukrainian Oksana Jakowyschyn . In the semifinals against England , she was substituted on just before the end of extra time.

After that she played for the U-19 team, u. a. in the group stage at the U-19 European Women's Football Championship 2010 and in both qualifying rounds and the final round of the U-19 European Women's Football Championship 2011 .

It was not taken into account for the 2013 European Championship , as was the qualification for the 2015 World Cup . She was nominated for this, but only had a nine-minute short stint in the first World Cup game of the Dutch women, which was won 1-0 against New Zealand . After that, it was used more and more often and was a regular player at the 2017 European Championship in her home country. She was used in the six games of the Dutch women, substituted five times. In the first group game against Norway , she scored the only goal of the game. In the quarter-finals against Sweden , she prepared the goal for the 2-0 final score and in the final the goal for the interim 1: 1 (final score 4: 2).

In the subsequent qualification for the 2019 World Cup , she was used in all twelve games of the Dutch women, but was substituted ten times. With three goals, she helped the Dutch win the last European World Cup ticket. Between the qualifying games she won the Algarve Cup 2018 with the team .

At the World Cup in France, she was used in the seven games of the Dutch women, but was substituted four times. In the second group game against Cameroon , she prepared the first goal (final score 3: 1). The Dutch reached the final with six wins, but lost it 2-0 to defending champions USA .
