Hermann Langer (organist)

Hermann Langer (born July 6, 1819 in Höckendorf ; † September 8, 1889 in Dresden ) was a German organist and university music director at the University of Leipzig .

Career

Langer studied music and philosophy in Leipzig. In the summer of 1840 he became a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (now the German Choir ). In 1843 he became university music director and organist and remained in this position for several decades. At the same time he was conductor and director of the university choir "Paulus". Between 1853 and 1887 he also organized exercises on liturgical singing and general music teaching as well as organ courses as a lector publicus . In 1859 he was awarded a Dr. phil. hc appointed, in 1882 King. Professor. From 1887 he was organ builder in Dresden.

Langer was the editor of the "Musikalische Gartenlaube" and the "Repertory for Male Singing".
