Johann Philipp Christian Schulz

Johann Philipp Christian Schulz (born September 24, 1773 in Langensalza ; † January 30, 1827 in Leipzig ) was a German composer and from 1810 to 1827 Gewandhaus Kapellmeister .

Life

Schulz went to the Thomasschule in Leipzig , where he also received his musical training, among other things from the then Thomaskantor and Gewandhauskapellmeister Johann Gottfriedschicht .

From 1800 he directed the orchestra of the Franz Seconda Society . In 1810 he became the shift's successor in the Gewandhaus and remained in this position until his death.

As a composer, Schulz u. a. Overtures , interludes , choirs, chants, romances and marches to plays such as “ The Maiden of Orléans ”, “ Faust ” and “ Wallenstein ”. He also created canzonettes, hunter's songs with French horns and set some folk songs to music.
