Friedrich Brandes (conductor)
Friedrich Brandes (born November 18, 1864 in Aschersleben , † November 20, 1940 in Dresden ) was a German conductor .
Brandes studied in Leipzig from Michaelmas 1886 to Easter 1891. Since then he has been a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli in Mainz ( German Choir ). Brandes was the conductor of the Dresden Choral Society from 1898 to 1922. From 1908 to 1930 he worked at the University of Leipzig as university music director and as head of the St. Pauli university choir .
As a composer, he mainly wrote male choir songs and piano pieces.
Brandes was editor of the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik from 1911 to 1919 .
