Johann Gottlieb Görner
Johann Gottlieb Görner (born April 16, 1697 in Penig ; † February 15, 1778 in Leipzig ) was a German composer and organist .
Life
Görner attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig from 1712 and studied at the University of Leipzig from 1716 .
In 1716 he became organist at the St. Pauli University Church and in 1721 at the Nikolaikirche . From 1723 to 1756 he headed the Collegium musicum founded by Johann Friedrich Fasch in 1708 , which competed with Johann Sebastian Bach . In 1723 he became music director of the university church . His application for the Thomaskantorat was unsuccessful.
His brother was the composer Johann Valentin Görner . He was married twice and one of his children was the organist Carl Friedrich Görner . The singer Anna Magdalena Bach asked him in 1750 for the guardianship of her children.
