David Timm

David Timm (born April 24, 1969 in Waren an der Müritz ) is a German pianist , organist , choir director and jazz musician . Since February 2005 he has been university music director of the University of Leipzig and also director of the Leipzig University Choir .

During his school days, Timm was a member and later First Prefect of the Leipzig St. Thomas Choir . After graduating from the Thomas School , he studied church music from 1989 to 1995 at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig with Hannes Kästner , Arvid Gast and Volker Bräutigam and completed his studies with the Church Music A-exam . After completing his studies, Timm completed a piano course in Markus Tomas' master class , which he graduated with honors in 1999. In 1996/97 he was studying with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Salzburg Mozarteum . From 1998 to 2002 he taught choir and orchestral conducting at the Evangelical College for Church Music in Halle and since 1998 liturgical organ playing at the Leipzig College of Music and, since 2002, also artistic organ playing. In 2017 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Music and Theater Leipzig.

Since 1991 Timm has performed together with the saxophonist Reiko Brockelt as jazz duo Timm / Brockelt at classical and jazz festivals at home and abroad. Together with the saxophonist Frank Nowicky , he founded the LeipzigBigband in 1999 and was musical director of the Leipzig vocal ensemble from 1999 to 2006 .

In 1997 he was awarded first prize at the International Competition for Organ Improvisation in Schwäbisch Gmünd .

David Timm is co-founder and CEO of the Richard Wagner Society Leipzig 2013 . In 2008 he was awarded the Mozart Prize of the Saxon Mozart Society.
