Hannes Kästner

Hannes Kästner (born October 27, 1929 in Oetzsch-Markkleeberg ; † July 14, 1993 in Leipzig ) was a German organist and harpsichordist .

During his school days, Kästner was a member of the Leipzig St. Thomas Choir from 1940 to 1948 . After graduating from the Thomas School , he studied church music from 1948 to 1952 with Günther Ramin at the State University of Music in Leipzig .

While still a student in 1949, he performed substitute services and in 1951 was appointed official representative to the vacant Thomas organist position. In 1953 he took over the office, which he held until 1984.

After 1960, the office of Thomas cantor by Kurt Thomas ' departure became vacant, he took it provisionally true until Erhard Mauersberger was appointed in 1961 by the city of Leipzig.

From 1960 Kästner taught organ and harpsichord at the University of Music in Leipzig, where he was appointed professor for organ playing in 1984. He held this teaching position until his death.

Hannes Kästner played as a harpsichordist in the Leipzig Bach Orchestra .
