Reiko Brockelt

Reiko Brockelt (born August 8, 1971 in Löbau ) is a German jazz saxophonist .

Life

At the age of 14, Brockelt attended the special school for music in Halle (Saale) , where he learned the clarinet. After graduating from high school, from 1989 to 1999 he studied jazz saxophone, clarinet and pedagogy at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig .

In 1992 he took part in the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra led by Peter Herbolzheimer and then worked as first contralto and lecturer in various youth jazz orchestras .

Since 1991 Brockelt has appeared together with the pianist David Timm as JazzDuo Timm / Brockelt at many classical and jazz festivals in Germany and abroad. In 1998 they won the Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Scholarship from the Marion Ermer Foundation.

Reiko Brockelt has been working as an honorary teacher at the Leipzig Music School since 2003. He also leads the jazz band of the Evangelical School Center in Leipzig . Since 2006 he has led the Unibigband Leipzig , for which he also writes arrangements and compositions, and is director of the Leipzig Saxophone School . He is also the main organizer of the annual Kids Jazz LE jazz festival
