history

In 1937 the association 'Alphons Diepenbrock' was founded in Nijmegen, which comprises a choir and an orchestra. The namesake of this association is the Dutch composer Alphons Diepenbrock . Max Prick van Wely was the first to take up the post of conductor. During the Second World War the association disappeared, but after the war the "Studenten Muziekvereniging Dr. Alphons Diepenbrock" was founded.

In 1952 the orchestra became independent and was called Nijmeegs Studentenorkest Collegium Musicum Carolinum (CMC). The choir changed its name to "Nijmeegs Gemengd Studentenkoor 'Dr. Alphons Diepenbrock". Both choir and orchestra were under the direction of Father Ben Kahmann. In 1963 the word "Gemengd" (mixed) was deleted from the name, in 1969 the title "Dr." also disappeared.

The NSKAD performed the Dutch premiere of The Fairy-Queen by Henry Purcell in April 1956 . It was a cooperation between NSKAD, the student orchestra CMC and the classical dance company Les Précieuses Ridicules . In 1964 the "Nijmeegs Studentenkoor" could be heard several times on the KRO U hebt voorrang radio program . In 1966 they participated in a radio recording for AVRO , which was later released as a long-playing record. Then u. a. Geldeloss, je doet me pijn performed by Joop Voorn , which is dedicated to the NSKAD. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary in 1967 the choir premiered with the Quattuor Antiphonae Finales by Anton van Deursen (also dedicated to him and his conductor) .

On September 2, 1967, the NSKAD, under the direction of Father Kahmann, participated in the baptismal service for Prince Willem-Alexander . On the occasion of the 35th anniversary in 1972, the world premiere of Den spieghel by Salicheit van Elckerlyck studente von Kahmann was performed with texts by Guus Pikkemaat. For the 50th anniversary of Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen in 1974, the choir participated in the performance of the work Il Principe by Louis Andriessen .

In 1981 the choir performed with Kortsluiting , an opera written especially for NSKAD by Hans Glas , based on poems by Paul van Ostaijen . For the 1997 anniversary, the work Denkens aan Holland by the Dutch composer Theo Hoek was performed in collaboration with the CMC . During the anniversary concert in 2007 the Dutch premiere of the Missa Solemnis in E by Luigi Cherubini was performed.

Over time, the choir was directed by Max Prick van Wely (1937–1939), C. Ingen-Housz (1948–1949), Jack van der Zand (1949–1953), Father Ben Kahmann (1953–1974), Kees Stolwijk (1974–1989), Ulrike Heider (1989–1996), Pauli Yap (1996–2001), Gijs Leenaars (2001–2006), Patrick Pranger (2006–2007) and Hans de Wilde (since October 2007)

75th anniversary

In 2012 the NSKAD celebrated its 75th anniversary. This 15th Lustrum opened with a concert in the Concertgebouw de Vereeniging , with Dona Nobis Pacem by Ralph Vaughan Williams and the mass by Igor Stravinsky . In addition, Il Principe was sung by Louis Andriessen , exactly 37.5 years after it was first performed (at that point exactly halfway through the choir's history).

In addition, the choir conducted an exchange with the student orchestra SymfUni from Copenhagen , as a result of which concerts were given in both Denmark and the Netherlands in May and June 2012, with the Te Deum by Antonín Dvořák and Elverskud by the Danish composer Niels Gade on the program stood.
