The Faroese Handball Cup ( Faroese Steypakappingin í føroyskum hondbólti ) is the cup competition for men's and women's handball club teams. In contrast to the championship , which was held for the first time in 1943, this has only been played since 1985 or 1987. From 2012 to 2017 the cup was called the Coca-Cola Cup because of a sponsorship , and since then Faxe Kondi -kappingin . The winner is eligible to compete in the EHF Cup , although no Faroese club took part in the European competition in 2019/20. The competition is held in January and February.
The seven top division teams are divided into two groups of three or four teams, with everyone playing against everyone. After that, the first and second in the group play against each other in the semi-finals with a return leg. The two winners, in the event of a tie, the away goals rule decides , contest the final for the cup.
In 1987 and 1988 the first and second teams from Neistin Tórshavn played the cup final.
Neistin Tórshavn won the cup five times in a row between 1994 and 1998.
In contrast, Stjørnan Klaksvík was nine times in a row in the finals between 2004 and 2012, seven of which were won.
The highest victory in the final was achieved in 1989 by Neistin Tórshavn against Søljan Sandavágur with a 29: 7.
The most goals scored with 31 each Vestmanna ÍF 2001 and Stjørnan Klaksvík 2007. Søljan Sandavágur threw the fewest goals in 1989 with seven.
