At the time he became the youngest football manager in the history of Belgian football. Since then he has coached Belgian, Finnish and Faroese clubs as well as the national coach of the U-17 national team of Qatar . He also worked as Technical Director at FC Emmen in the Netherlands and as a consultant for the Kazakh Football Association . From 2008 to October 1, 2010 he coached the national team of Namibia . From January 1, 2011 to May 2011, he was the coach of the Jordanian first division club Nadi Shabab Al-Ordon . From June to October 2011, Saintfiet was the coach of the Ethiopian national football team . From summer 2012 Saintfiet acted as the sports director of the national team of Nigeria. There he was responsible for cooperation between the youth teams, the U-23 and the national team. In early October 2012, he was introduced as the new national coach of Yemen , where he resigned after losing to Malaysia in March 2013. He then briefly led the Malawi national team . In July 2014, Saintfiet was introduced as the new coach of the South African first division club Free State Stars .
From May 2015 to April 2016 he coached the Togolese national soccer team . After that, from June 2016 onwards he was the national coach of Bangladesh for three months . This was followed by positions as national coach for Trinidad and Tobago and Malta . Saintfiet has been training the Gambia selection since 2018 .
He has a " UEFA - coaching license A-Pro" and studied sports psychology and economics.
His greatest successes as a coach were third place in the 2004 U-17 soccer championship and qualifying for the U-17 soccer world cup in 2005 .
Moved to Zimbabwe in 2010
On October 1, Saintfiet confirmed his move as a coach to the Zimbabwean national football team and resigned as the Namibian national coach. From October to December 2010, the Belgian worked in his new position as head coach, before the local immigration authorities refused him a work permit despite having signed a four-year contract with the Zimbabwean Football Association (ZIFA). Saintfiet returned to Namibia, but the Zimbabwean Football Association did not terminate his contract. FIFA is now dealing with this issue, as Saintfiet's contract is still valid, even though he has not received a work permit.
