Ingi Højsted (born November 12, 1985 in Tórshavn ) is a former Faroese football player who played for the national team and had to end his career early due to several serious injuries.

societies

Højsted started at B36 Tórshavn when he was young . After performing well in the youth team at B36, he moved to Arsenal in 2001 . The midfielder was only allowed to play in the youth team there, as this time was mainly characterized by injuries. In 2005 he returned to his homeland at B36 Tórshavn. He made his debut for the A-team in the second round of the Cup in a 4-1 away win against Skála ÍF , but the game was subsequently considered lost. In the first division he completed almost all games as a regular player, he made his debut on the first day of the game in the home game against NSÍ Runavík , which was lost 1-0. He scored his first league goal on the 17th matchday in the home game against GÍ Gøta . He scored 2-0 in a 3-1 win. In his first season he was able to celebrate the championship title alongside Fróði Benjaminsen , Jákup Mikkelsen , Allan Mørkøre , Mikkjal K. Thomassen and Pól Thorsteinsson, among others .

In late 2005, Højsted signed a contract with Birmingham City , making him the first Faroese player to be on the squad of a Premier League club. There he could not prevail and only played one half for the reserve in four months in a 4-0 win against Manchester United . After some clubs showed interest, including Ipswich Town , for which he completed a trial training, he decided in April 2006 to return to B36 Tórshavn. In his second game he suffered a knee injury and had to take a break for more than a year. In 2008 he injured his knee again in the cup and was out for several months. After not playing at all in 2009, he returned to football the following year and again played a few games for the first and second team of B36 Tórshavn. In 2011 he was used in most of the games of B36 and won the championship together with Jákup á Borg , Atli Danielsen and Súni Olsen . A year later he was only used in the Supercup game against EB / Streymur , which was lost 1: 2 and had to leave the field after 20 minutes. As it turned out later, the cruciate ligament had torn and due to the third knee injury, a career end was promised. The game for the Supercup was his last appearance.

European Cup

Højsted played in the UEFA Cup seven times . He made his debut in 2005/06 for B36 Tórshavn in the first leg of the first qualifying round against ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar , which ended 1-1 away. With the 2-1 success in the second leg, the next round could be reached, in which B36 narrowly lost out against FC Midtjylland with 1: 2 and 2: 2. In the first leg defeat, Højsted scored his first of two European Cup goals with the connecting goal to 2-1. The last appearance in the UEFA Cup he had in 2008/09 in the second leg of the first qualifying round against Brøndby IF , which was lost 2-0 and after the 0-1 defeat in the first leg meant elimination.

National team

Højsted played a total of six times for the Faroese national team . He made his debut on April 29, 2003 in the friendly against Kazakhstan in Tórshavn , when he came on at halftime at 0: 1 for Jákup á Borg . The game was won 2-1. At 17 years and 5 months old, he is the youngest player to have ever played for the Faroese national team. He played his last game on October 15, 2008 in the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania , which was lost 1-0 in Kaunas . Højsted came on for Símun Eiler Samuelsen in the last ten minutes .
