Club career
FC Universitatea Craiova
Ionescu made his debut for FC Universitatea Craiova in Liga 1 on August 27, 2006 against Dinamo Bucharest . Dinamo won the game 4-0. Before Ionescu moved to Universitatea, he played in the youth team and second team of PSV Eindhoven . He played for Universitatea from 2005 to 2008 and was used 55 times.
Steaua Bucharest
In August 2008, Steaua Bucharest announced that it would sign Ionescu for around € 500,000. Since he was only used irregularly at Steaua, he was loaned out in the second half of the 2009/10 season to league rivals Politehnica Iași , with whom he was relegated at the end of the season. In summer 2010 he returned to Steaua.
Royal Antwerp
From August 31, 2011 to summer 2012, he was under contract with Royal Antwerp in Belgium .
Ferencváros Budapest
In the summer of 2012 he moved to the Hungarian record champions Ferencváros Budapest . If he was there regularly in the first half of the 2012/13 season , he lost his place in the team at the beginning of 2013 and found himself in the second team. This did not change in the 2013/14 season . Ionescu usually found himself on the bench and only made six appearances.
Last years
In the summer of 2014, Ionescu's contract in Budapest was not renewed. He was without a club for a few months before joining Naft Al-Janoob in the Iraqi Super League in early October 2014 . In the summer of 2015 he did not find a club again. It was not until the beginning of February 2016 that the Dutch second division club FC Eindhoven signed him . There he came to five short assignments. In the summer of 2016, he moved to the Cypriot second division club ASIL Lysi . Half a year later he returned to Romania, where he joined FC Voluntari . There it was only used three times by summer 2017. He then moved to Aizawl FC in the Indian I-League .
