Julio Salinas Fernández (born September 11, 1962 in Bilbao ) is a former Spanish football player who played in the position of striker .

career

Salinas began his professional career in 1982 with the Athletic Bilbao team , with whom he won twice the championship in the Primera División in 1983 and 1984 and once the Copa del Rey in 1984. In 1986 he moved to Atlético Madrid , for which he played for two years. In 1988 he moved to FC Barcelona , where he had his most successful time with four Spanish championships and the European Cup in the 1991/92 season. In 1994 he left Barcelona for Deportivo La Coruña , with whom he finished second behind Real Madrid at the end of the season . However, he left the club after a year to go to Sporting Gijón in 1995 . In 1997 he moved to Japan with the Yokohama F. Marinos before returning to Spain in 1998 to play for Deportivo Alavés . After the 1999/2000 season, he finally ended his active career.

Salinas played 417 games in the Spanish league during his career, in which he scored 152 goals and 47 games in the Japanese league, in which he scored 34 times.

International matches

Salinas played a total of 56 international matches for the Spanish national team between 1986 and 1996 and was able to score 22 goals during that time. He made his debut on January 22, 1986 in the game against the Soviet Union in which he was able to score a goal. He participated in the 1986 , 1990 and 1994 World Championships . He made his last game for the national team at the European Championships in 1996 in the quarter-finals against England, when Spain were eliminated on penalties.
