Marquitos (actually Marcos Alonso Imaz ; born April 16, 1933 in Santander ; † March 6, 2012 ibid) was a Spanish football player . He was five times Spanish champion with Real Madrid and won the European Cup as often .
Career
Marquitos began his career at Rayo Cantabria , a lower class club from his hometown. In 1951 he moved to Racing Santander , the leading football club in Santander and Cantabria . In the same year he made his debut in the Spanish first division and fought for a regular place as a central defender. In 1954, at the age of 21, he moved to Real Madrid . In his first season with the Madrilenians, he won his first championship. Four more championship titles and a success in the Spanish Cup were to follow by 1962. In the newly created European Cup , he was in the five finals of Real Madrid from 1956 to 1960, first as a central defender, in later years as a right-back in the starting lineup of the Royal. In the 1956 final against Stade de Reims , he even scored a goal. He also won the first World Cup with Real Madrid in 1960 .
In 1962 he left Real Madrid and played for various smaller clubs for the next few years before ending his active career in 1966. In 1970 he played again for a season at CD Toluca , a small club in his hometown, before finally retiring from football.
Despite his success with Real Madrid, he was unable to assert himself in the Spanish national team . He only played a friendly game for the Iberians in 1955 and 1960.

Trivia
His son Marcos Alonso Peña was also a professional footballer at Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona , where he played from 1982 to 1987, and his grandson Marcos Alonso Mendoza made his league debut with Real Madrid in April 2010 .
