Mark Thomas Lawrenson (born June 2, 1957 in Preston , England ) is a former Irish football player and coach.

life and career

Lawrenson began his career at Preston North End at the age of 17 . His first professional coach at the time was world champion Bobby Charlton . His consistently good performance brought the Englishman to the Irish team . Lawreson's grandfather is Irish. He made his debut for the Inselkicker on April 24, 1977 in Dublin against Poland . In 1977 the huge talent switched to Brighton & Hove Albion . Lawrenson made his debut for the Seagulls against Southampton FC on August 20, 1977. After the club's financial problems, he had to leave the club in 1981. The Liverpool won the race for the English Irish and committed Lawrenson. Lawrenson made his debut on August 21, 1981 against Wolverhampton Wanderers . With the Reds, the defender won the English championship five times (1982–1984, 1986, 1988), once the English FA Cup (1986), once the European Cup (1984) and three times the English League Cup ( 1982-1984). Internationally, Lawrenson played 39 times for the Irish national football team and scored five goals. After his playing career, he trained unsuccessfully at Oxford United and Peterborough United . He's a very popular analyst these days on radio and television for the BBC .
