Jan Mølby (born July 4, 1963 in Kolding ) is a former Danish football player and coach . He is a cousin of Johnny Mølby , who became European champion in 1992 .
Player career
Club career
Mølby started his professional career in his hometown at Kolding IF . There he was appointed team captain at the age of 19. He quickly recommended himself outside of Denmark and moved to Ajax Amsterdam in 1982 , where he would play for two years.
In 1984 he moved to the Premier League for Liverpool FC . There he was a feared penalty taker . Of the 62 goals he scored for the club in total, 42 were scored from penalties. He even managed a penalty hat trick in a cup game against Coventry City .
In 1995 it was awarded several times. First he ran for Barnsley FC , then for Norwich City . He then went to Swansea City , where he played until 1998.
International career
Mølby played a total of 33 international matches for Denmark between 1982 and 1990 , in which he scored two goals. He took part with the national selection at the European Championship 1984 and the World Championship 1986 .
After the active time
After finishing his active career, Mølby initially worked as a sports commentator. In 1999 he was hired by the Kidderminster Harriers , who played in the Nationwide Conference , as a coach. The promotion to professional football succeeded in the very first year. However, the club had massive problems due to poor audience response and the collapse of ITV Digital . Mølby therefore accepted an offer from Hull City to become their coach. There he stayed only briefly because of various quarrels and returned to Kidderminster . However, he did not succeed and at the end of 2004 he ended his involvement with the club.
Since then Mølby has been working again as a television commentator for the Danish broadcaster TV 2 . It is mainly used for international matches.
