The Football League Third Division 1963/64 was the 37th season of the Football League Third Division as the third highest English football league . Third division champion was Coventry City and also the second-placed Crystal Palace rose to the Football League Second Division . For the two promoted teams in the following third division season 1964/65, the two second division clubs Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United ranked in the table below . From the Third Division to the Football League Fourth Division had to relegate Millwall FC , Crewe Alexandra , AFC Wrexham and Notts County . Instead of these clubs, the fourth division champions FC Gillingham and behind them Carlisle United , AFC Workington and Exeter City took the vacant positions in the following season 1964/65 .
