Grant Holt (born April 12, 1981 in Carlisle ) is an English football player .
Career
Rochdale AFC
After his career had been unsuccessful in the first few years, Holt moved to the English fourth division AFC Rochdale in the 2003/04 season . In the following season Holt (40 games / 17 goals) made a breakthrough in his new club, which also achieved ninth place in the table thanks to his goals. The start of the 2005/06 season was again successful for the center forward, scoring 14 goals in 21 games. Through his marksmanship, he made Nottingham Forest attention, who signed him on January 12, 2006 during the current season.
Nottingham Forest
His new club, which had won the European Champions Cup in 1979 and 1980 , had meanwhile been relegated to the third division. After a less than successful start in his new team, Holt (45 games / 14 goals) achieved a better personal result in the 2006/07 season. Nottingham Forest failed to return to the second division in these two seasons, but in 2007/08 they were promoted to the Football League Championship by being runner-up behind Swansea City . Holt couldn't convince this season and at the end of the season spent a month and a half on loan at Blackpool FC . After the season he moved to the fourth division club Shrewsbury Town , where Holt (46 games / 20 goals) found back on the road to success. Again he dared to move to a more ambitious club and joined Norwich City .
Norwich City
His new club was playing in the third-rate Football League One at this time and rose to the second division as champions in the 2009/10 season. Holt scored 24 goals in 39 games and thus had a share in the rise. Both the club and Holt were able to continue their success in the following season. Norwich City was runner-up behind the Queens Park Rangers in the 2010/11 season and rose again to the Premier League after six years of abstinence . With 21 goals in 45 games, Holt was again the top scorer of his team and was elected together with his teammate Wes Hoolahan in the PFA Team of the Year in the English second division. In the 2011/12 season , Holt also demonstrated his scoring skills in the Premier League: He scored 15 goals in 36 games and helped his team stay up early.
Wigan Athletic
For the 2013/14 season he moved to the Premier League relegated Wigan Athletic and signed a contract there until 2016. In the winter break of the same season, first division Aston Villa loaned him to the summer. Villa's reaction to the serious injury suffered by Libor Kozák ; Holt works at Aston Villa with his old coach Paul Lambert , under whom he had already played for Norwich City .
