societies
Shelbourne FC
Wes Hoolahan began his playing career in Ireland in 2000. With FC Shelbourne , based in his native Dublin , he won three Irish championship titles in a row in 2002, 2003 and 2004 . In January 2006 he decided to move to the Scottish first division club Livingston FC . The start for his new club was not very successful: Livingston rose at the end of the season as bottom of the table from the Scottish Premier League 2005/06 . Also in the following season in the second-rate Scottish First Division , the club did not act as hoped and clearly missed the direct re-promotion. Wes Hoolahan spent the 2006/07 season on loan from English third division club Blackpool .
Blackpool FC
With his new team, however, the success came all the faster. Blackpool reached a third place in the table behind Scunthorpe United and Bristol City and prevailed in the subsequent play-offs against Oldham Athletic and Yeovil Town and thus achieved promotion to the second-rate Football League Championship . Hoolahan (42 games / 8 goals) made a name for himself as a regular player and thus achieved a commitment on a permanent contract basis. The season in the Football League Championship 2007/08 was satisfactory for the promoted team, as the team achieved relegation with 19th place. Hoolahan (45/5) was once again an important pillar of the team and contributed to the success. After the season, Hoolahan decided to move to Norwich City again .
Norwich City
In Norwich , Hoolahan suffered another setback in his career. The club rose at the end of the season as third from bottom of the Football League Championship 2008/09 . Hoolahan (32 games / 2 goals) was injured in March 2009 and missed the crucial games towards the end of the season. In return , the team managed to return directly to the championship under the new coach Paul Lambert in the third-class Football League One . The team around the strong Wes Hoolahan (37 games / 11 goals) won the third division championship ahead of Leeds United and Millwall FC . The return to the Football League Championship 2010/11 experienced an increase in the following season by the runner-up behind the Queens Park Rangers . After six years of abstinence, Norwich City achieved renewed participation in the top English division, the Premier League . Wes Hoolahan (41 games / 10 goals) was chosen at the end of the 2010/11 season together with his teammate Grant Holt in the PFA Team of the Year of the English second division. At the end of the 2017/18 season, he left the club after ten years and 351 competitive games.
West Bromwich Albion
On September 14, 2018, Hoolahan joined West Bromwich Albion .
Irish national team
After he had already played three games for the Irish U-21s in 2002, Wes Hoolahan made his debut on May 29, 2008 in the friendly against Colombia in the Irish national team . At the European Football Championship in 2016 , he was on the starting line-up in the first group match between the Irish and Sweden and scored the team's first tournament goal; the game ended 1-1. In the 3-0 defeat against Belgium he was also in the first eleven; In the decisive group game against Italy , he gave the cross after being substituted in the final quarter of an hour, which Robbie Brady headed into the goal to make it 1-0. In the second round, the team lost 2-1 to France .
