Arno Deister

Arno Deister (born November 13, 1957 in Karlsruhe ) is a German psychiatrist , psychotherapist , psychosomatic specialist and neurologist . He is currently President of the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN; Berlin).

Life

Deister studied from 1976 to 1982 at the universities of Aachen and Cologne medicine and was at the 1984 RWTH Aachen on self-confrontation with audiovisual schizophrenia doctorate . Further training at the universities of Cologne and Bonn followed. In 1994 Deister completed his habilitation with the longitudinal study Subtypes of Schizophrenic Psychoses - A Comparison of Different Diagnostic Systems with Special Consideration of the Long-Term Course .

From 1990 to 1996 Deister initially worked as a senior physician and later as a senior senior physician at the University Hospital Bonn . From 1994 he was acting director of the Institute for Medical Psychology at the University of Bonn. In 1996 he moved to the Itzehoe Clinic , where he has been the head physician of the Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine ever since . From 2000 to 2003 and from 2006 to 2012 he was Medical Director in Itzehoe.

In 2004 Deister received the title of adjunct professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . Deister also taught at further training institutes for psychotherapy such as the Academy for Behavioral Therapy (AVT Cologne) and the Institute for Therapy and Health Research (IFT Nord). Deister is the author of numerous works in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy, including the textbook Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (Möller, Laux & Deister; published in the dual series ). He was also involved in several publications, particularly in the field of affective and schizophrenic disorders. In total, Deister has written around 200 scientific papers on psychiatric and health policy topics.

Deister played a leading role in the project to introduce a "regional psychiatry budget".

Until 2012 Deister was temporarily on the board of the 6K hospital association in Schleswig-Holstein, in which he was chairman between 2000 and 2002. In 2012, Deister was elected to the board of the German Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurology (DGPPN) as a representative of psychiatric clinics at general hospitals .

In November 2014 Deister was elected President-elect of the DGPPN and is therefore the President of this scientific society for 2017 and 2018.
