Robert "Robbie" Earnshaw (born April 6, 1981 in Mufulira , Zambia ) is a former Welsh football player and current coach. His father is from Wales and his mother from Zambia. Has coached the U-14 juniors of the Vancouver Whitecaps since 2016 .

Career

society

Earnshaw's first professional team was the Welsh capital club Cardiff City . In 1999, the attacker joined the club's professional squad. Before that he played in the youth division of the Bluebirds . In order to give him more game practice, Earnshaw was awarded to Greenock Morton in 2000 . There he only played three games. After his return, the then young player developed into a top performer for the team and played his way into the starting lineup. In the summer of 2004 he moved to West Bromwich Albion . On September 11, 2004, he made his competitive debut for the new club. Earnshaw had to wait seven more games before his first goal for West Brom. On November 6, 2004, he contributed both goals in his team's 2-2 draw against the Southampton team. By a hat trick on March 19, 2005, he became the first player to achieve one in all four English professional leagues. Although he mostly played the joker role in his first year at Bromwich, Earnshaw was the team's best attacker with 14 goals. He was awarded the Ronnie Allen Trophy for his good performance. Due to the obligations of Diomansy Kamara and Nathan Ellington , the competition grew in the following year. For this reason, the Welshman decided to move to Norwich City in January 2006 . There he played his way back into the starting line-up and regularly scored goals for Norwich.

On June 29, 2007, Earnshaw signed with Derby County . With a transfer fee of £ 3.5 million, it was the most expensive transfer in club history at the time. On August 11, 2007 he made his debut in the dress of the new employer. After less than a year, the players and the club separated again. In contrast to his previous stations, the striker could not prevail at Derby County and only scored one league goal. In May 2008, Nottingham Forest secured the services of the little dribbling player for £ 2.65 million. There Earnshaw found his way back to old strength. In his first season for the new club, he scored 12 goals in 32 games and was the top scorer of his team in the Football League Championship 2008/09 . At the end of the season Forest just reached relegation under the new coach Billy Davies , who had replaced Colin Calderwood in the course of the year . The 2009/10 season was much more positive for the club with a third place in the regular season. The promotion to the Premier League was missed by two defeats in the first play-off round against Blackpool FC . Earnshaw scored 17 goals in 34 league games and was again the best scorer of his team. On December 5, 2009, he managed his first hat trick for his new club in a 5-1 home win over Leicester City . After another narrowly missed promotion to the Football League Championship 2010/11 , the contract of Earnshaw (34 games / 8 goals) ran out. He turned down the club's reduced offer for a contract extension and moved to Cardiff City on a free transfer .

On September 20, 2012, Earnshaw moved to Israel on loan to Maccabi Tel Aviv . Between 2013 and 2015 he played for Toronto FC , Blackpool FC and Chicago Fire before moving to the Vancouver Whitecaps . There he ended his career in January 2016. He then started working for the Whitecaps as a coach for the U-14 juniors and as an offensive coach.

National team

From 2002 to 2012, Earnshaw was a regular member of the Welsh national team . He made his debut in a friendly match in 2002. On May 14, 2002 Earnshaw was in his debut game for the senior team in the starting XI of the Welsh. In the 1-0 win against Germany at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff , he scored the winning goal for his team.
