Colin Calderwood (born January 20, 1965 in Stranraer , Scotland ) is a former Scottish football player and current coach . In his coaching career so far he has a. Nottingham Forest and Hibernian Edinburgh.

Active career

Calderwood began his professional career at Mansfield Town . For the 1985/86 season he moved for £ 27,500 to fourth-lisist Swindon Town , with whom he rose as a champion in the third division in the first year . It was followed by the direct walkover to the second division when Swindon play-off for promotion first Wigan Athletic after the and Gillingham FC had off. In 1990 he was promoted to the First Division through the play-offs . Due to illegal payments, the association downgraded Swindon to the third division.

In 1993 Calderwood moved to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League . During his time at Tottenham, for which he played 163 league games, he became a Scottish international . From 1995 to 1999 he played 36 international matches and scored one goal. He took part in the European Championship in 1996 and the World Championship in 1998 .

After leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2000, he played briefly at Aston Villa , Nottingham Forest and Notts County before retiring in 2001.

Coaching career

Northampton Town

After finishing his playing career, Calderwood was coach of the reserve team at Tottenham Hotspur. In October 2003 he took over the team from Northampton Town and established the club in the following years in the top third of the fourth division. In the 2005/06 season he reached promotion to the third division with his team.

Nottingham Forest

In 2006 he took over the coaching position at Nottingham Forest . The club, which had won the English championship in 1978 under coach Brian Clough and then won the European Cup twice in a row , was relegated to the third-class Football League One in 2005 . Talented young players like Jermaine Jenas , Michael Dawson and Andy Reid had left the team and the club had major financial problems. The starting position was accordingly negative, but Calderwood led the club to fourth place in the third division in the 2006/07 season. In the first play-off round, however, Forest failed at Yeovil Town . After a further increase in performance and the runner-up in the 2007/08 season, Calderwood reached promotion to the Football League Championship a year later, along with players like Kris Commons , James Perch and Wes Morgan .

The return to the second division proved subsequently, however, more difficult than expected and after 26 Gameday and equality with the relegation zone, the Executive Board decided him on 26 December 2008 after the 2: 4 home defeat against Doncaster Rovers to dismiss .

Already at the end of January 2009 he took over the coaching position of the reserve team of Newcastle United and after the relegation of the professional team from the Premier League in 2008/09 the position as assistant coach of Chris Hughton .

Since October 18, 2010 Colin Calderwood coached the Scottish first division club Hibernian Edinburgh in the Scottish Premier League . After a tenth place in the 2010/11 season , he was released on November 6, 2011 after another unsatisfactory start to the season.
