Nottingham Forest

In 1998 Reid moved from Ireland to Nottingham Forest . First he was used in the youth team, with which he surprisingly won the English youth championship in the 1999/00 season. On November 29, 2000, he made his debut on the professional team against Sheffield United and scored his first goal. Nottingham was relegated from the Premier League in the 1998/99 season and was still in upheaval in the 2000/2001 season. Coach David Platt had brought many new players, but rarely had a lucky hand. At the end of the season he was fired and replaced by Reid's former youth coach Paul Hart .

Even under the new coach, Forest was far from advancing to the top division and had to contend with significant financial problems. Reid appeared in 30 games but did not score a goal. In 2002/03 they finally managed to get into the play-off semi-finals with a sixth place in the table. There Reid (31 games / 2 goals) failed with his team at Sheffield United. The following year, coach Paul Hart was dismissed in early February 2004 and replaced by Joe Kinnear , who reached the league, which was now at risk, with the team. Andy Reid (46 games / 13 goals) finally made his breakthrough this season and was chosen as an award for his good performance in the PFA Team of the Year of the second division. In 2004/05 Forest rose to the third division. Reid (25 games / 5 goals) had already moved to Tottenham Hotspur during the season together with Michael Dawson for a total of around 8,000,000 pounds .

Tottenham Hotspur

Reid made his Premier League debut on February 5, 2005 in a 3-1 win over Portsmouth FC . Coach Martin Jol was convinced of the quality of his newcomer and used him frequently over the course of the season. In May 2005, he scored his first and only goal for Tottenham in a 5-1 win over Aston Villa . In a total of 26 league games, it remained with only one goal and in August 2006 it was sold to Charlton Athletic for 3,000,000 pounds .

Charlton Athletic

His new club was also active in the first division, but rose to the second division in the 2006/07 season . Reid earned himself a regular place and was one of the top performers in the following second division season before he decided to return to the Premier League and in late January 2008 signed a 3½-year contract with Sunderland AFC . In total, he scored eight goals in 38 games for Charlton.

Sunderland AFC

On February 9, 2008 Reid made his debut against Wigan Athletic and in late March 2008 scored his first goal for Sunderland . The team reached in the Premier League 2007/08 as a promoted table position 15 and thus relegation. The coming year brought with place 16 again a placement in the lower third of the table and a long fight against relegation. The Premier League 2009/10 ran completely without relegation worries. Striker Darren Bent in particular ensured a middle place in the table with his 24 league goals. Reid earned a regular place in left midfield under coach Steve Bruce and contributed his part to the good season.

After Andy Reid found his place in the regular formation less often in the following years, he moved to the 2010/11 Football League Championship on loan to the second division club Sheffield United at the end of October 2010 . After the loan deal expired, Reid was transferred to the first division club Blackpool on January 31, 2011 .

Nottingham Forest

After his contract in Blackpool was not renewed, Andy Reid decided in early July 2011 to return to Nottingham and signed a two-year contract with the club coached by Steve McClaren .

National team

In the Irish national football team he has played 27 games and scored 4 goals in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany . Since his debut in 2003, he has not qualified for an international tournament with Ireland. The Irish national team also failed in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa . After finishing second in Group 8 behind world champions Italy , Ireland lost two play-offs against France . Under the new coach Giovanni Trapattoni Reid lost his regular place. After he found himself at least on the bench in the first three qualifying games, he has not even been part of the squad since then.
