The Kingsholm Stadium is a stadium in the English town of Gloucester , Gloucestershire . It seats 16,500 and is the home of the rugby union club Gloucester RFC .
In 1891 the club bought what is now the stadium for £ 4,000. The first grandstand was built in 1926 but burned down six years later. Gradually, the stadium was expanded to its present size. A significant expansion stage in the 1950s was the standing room with the name The Shed ("the shed"), which Gloucester fans also refer to as the "cauldron of fear".
Several preliminary round matches will be played at Kingsholm Stadium during the 2015 Rugby Union World Cup . The stadium was the venue for the Rugby Union World Cup in 1991 .
