The Sandy Park is a rugby union - Stadium in the English city of Exeter , County Devon , United Kingdom . It is the home of the Exeter Chiefs , who have been playing in England's top rugby union league since the 2010/11 season . The new home of the Chiefs was inaugurated on 1 September 2006, at that time with only 8,000 seats, at a cost of 15 million £ . The new building replaced the old county ground . After promotion to the Aviva Premiership 2010/11 , the stadium was expanded to its present size.
In addition to the sports facility, Sandy Park was also designed as an event and conference center . There are four large and eleven smaller rooms available in the Sandy Park Conference & Banqueting Center . The rooms can be equipped for four to 475 people using movable walls. Weddings, family celebrations and other festivities can also be organized.
In 2011 the club members agreed to expand the stadium to around 20,000 seats. However, an exact time has not been determined.
