Coupe de France 1994/95

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The competition for the Coupe de France in the 1994/95 season was the 78th playout of the French football cup for men's teams. This year, 5,975 clubs registered, including those from overseas possessions of France , of which Saint-Louisienne from Réunion even reached the first national round.

The defending champion was AJ Auxerre , this time eliminated in the round of 16. The trophy was won by Paris Saint-Germain FC , which made it their fourth success in their fifth appearance since 1982 . The final opponent Racing Club de Strasbourg was also in its fifth final; however, the Alsatians won the coupe for the last time in 1966 .

With FC Saint-Leu and Stade Poitiers, two semi-professional teams from National 1 (third division) made it to the second round; Pure amateur clubs were no longer represented there, but with FC Saint-Lô, AS Cherbourg and Stade Mont-de-Marsan three fourth-rate teams were in the round of the last 32 participants. Four teams from the professional Division 2 were even represented in the quarter-finals, of which Olympique Marseille , which was transferred to the second division this season, advanced to the semi-finals.

After the qualification rounds organized by the regional subdivisions of the regional association FFF , the 20 first division teams also intervened in the competition from the round of the last 64 teams . The pairings and home rights were drawn freely for each round; However, those clubs were allowed to automatically play their game in front of their own audience that competed against an opponent playing at least two classes higher. If the score was tied after extra time, there was a penalty shoot-out.

Several of this year's winners were even able to celebrate more than "just" their second cup victory: for Daniel Bravo (for the first time in 1985 with AS Monaco), Vincent Guérin (previously with HSC Montpellier in 1990 ), George Weah ( 1991 with Monaco) and coach Luis Fernández ( 1982 and 1983 with PSG, then still as a player) it was title number three, for Alain Roche ( 1986 and 1987 with Girondins Bordeaux) it was even the fourth.
