The Association Sportive de Cherbourg Football is a French football club from Cherbourg-en-Cotentin , a port city in Normandy .

history

It was founded in 1906 as Stella de Cherbourg . The club carried this name until 1945; then it was called after a merger of eleven local clubs AS Cherbourg-Stella and in 1960 it took its current name. The club colors are blue and white; the league team plays at the Stade Maurice Postaire , which has a capacity of 7,000 seats.

The club's president is Gérard Gohel; the first team is currently coached by Jean-Marie Huriez. (As of August 2011)

League affiliation

Cherbourg has professional status from 1960 to 1967 when the club bought FC Sète's place in the professional camp in 1960 . The club has never played first-class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ); for the 2013/14 season he was relegated back to the fourth division .
