The Stade Maurice Postaire is located in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin , Département Manche in the north-western region of Normandy , France . The multi-purpose stadium with an athletics facility now offers space for 7,000 spectators (1,300 of which are covered). The sports facility is mainly used for football and AS Cherbourg plays its games here. Opposite the main stand there is a spectator area covered with an awning . It was opened in 1934 under the name Stade des Sports . It was later named after the French politician Maurice Postaire , who was killed in a car accident. Next to the stadium there are three tennis courts and two sports halls. One of the halls is used by the AS Cherbourg basketball team.
