Ali Bouafia ( Arabic علي بوعافية; * August 5, 1964 in Mulhouse , France ) is a former Algerian soccer player . He completed seven games for the Algerian national team .

Club career

Bouafia started his career with FC Mulhouse in his hometown. It quickly became apparent that he had his greatest abilities in the position of playmaker, while his forward qualities could still be improved. Under coach Raymond Domenech , he established himself in the attacking midfield. In the second division he was able to play in the foreground and in 1987 moved to Olympique Marseille in the first division . The competition there was extremely tough with players like Alain Giresse and Klaus Allofs . Accordingly, he only made twelve missions and moved the following year to the then second division Olympique Lyon , where his former coach Raymond Domenech had also moved. Now he became a regular player and formed the offensive together with Aziz Bouderbala and Roberto Cabañas . Only a year later, the rise succeeded. In 1992 he moved to the first division promoted Racing Strasbourg .

His speed earned him the nickname Mouche ( French for "fly"). In 1995 he managed to move into the cup final with the club , where he was substituted on in the 72nd minute. Bouafia moved to relegated FC Sochaux in the same year . He played a good first season there, but was plagued by bad luck the following season. He then left the club in 1997 and went to Lorient . With fifteen goals, he played a significant role in the promotion to the first division. Despite good performance, he was undesirable at Lorient and in 1999 moved to US Créteil in the second division, which he left after only six months. His last station was EA Guingamp . With a goal against Lorient he managed to take revenge for his expulsion there. In 2000 he ended his active career at the age of almost 36. From then until 2002 he was the sports director of his last club. In 2009 he was hired as a scout at AS Monaco .

National team

Bouafia made his unofficial debut in February 1987 in a friendly game between the Algerians and FC Nantes . He made his official debut on March 13, 1988 in an African Championship game against Ivory Coast . At the tournament he reached third place with his team. At the African Cup of Nations in 1992 he was used again. There, however, the team was eliminated in the group stage. On January 17, he completed his last game for the national team with the group game against the Republic of Congo . In his seven missions he did not succeed.
