Alexander Vladimirovich Mostovoi (nickname: the Tsar ; Russian : Александр Владимирович Мостовой; UEFA transcription Alexander Mostovoi ; born August 22, 1968 in Leningrad ) is a former Russian football player. The midfielder and striker became known as a national player of the USSR and later Russia as well as a long-time playmaker for the Spanish club Celta de Vigo .
Mostowoi played 50 times for the Russian selection, including the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship, and he also made 15 appearances for the Soviet Union.

In a poll the club made in 2006, Alexander Mostovoi was named Player of the Century .
Celta Vigo
Mostowoi achieved his breakthrough at Celta Vigo , where he moved in 1996 for a transfer fee of 325 million pesetas (about 1.9 million euros ). His first game for Celta Vigo ended with a 2-0 home win over Betis Sevilla . His creative game and the important goals he scored for Celta Vigo made him the club's cult figure, which earned him the nickname Tsar of Balaídos . In 2000 he celebrated winning the UEFA Intertoto Cup with Celta Vigo . Mostowoi could not prevent the descent of Celta Vigo, in the 2003-2004 season, in the Segunda División . He moved to Deportivo Alavés for the second half of the 2004-2005 season before ending his career there.
Deportivo Alavés
After Mostowoi was injured for eight months and was already 36 years old, he could no longer gain a foothold at Alavés and play to his usual strengths. He played only one game against Cádiz , where he came on in the 78th minute and scored the only goal in the 3-1 defeat for Alavés. After only 30 days at the club, he asked the club management to terminate his contract because he suffered from severe back problems.
Private life
Mostovoi married twice. His first wife, whom he married in 1991, is Portuguese, so he also has the Portuguese passport . He later married his current wife Stefani, who is from France . He has two children with her.
