Emmanuel Rivière (born March 3, 1990 in Le Lamentin , Martinique ) is a French football player .

Club career

Beginning in Martinique and in Saint-Etienne

Born on the French island of Martinique, Rivières began his career as a youth player in the town of Sainte-Luce . At the age of 14, he aroused the interest of several mainland clubs at a football tournament at the French performance center Clairefontaine . In 2005 he finally moved to AS Saint-Étienne . There he first played for a few years for the club's youth team until he was part of the professional squad for the first time in the 2008/09 season. He made his professional debut in the UEFA Cup on December 17, 2008 when he came into the game for Dimitri Payet just before the end of the game. On January 10, 2009, he sat on the bench in a league game for the first time, and on February 1 of that year, the then 18-year-old came on for the first time in a game against Olympique Lyon . In a game against Le Havre , he scored his first goal in Ligue 1 on May 13, 2009.

In the following season, the young striker developed into a regular player. After being substituted on in all of his eight league games the year before, he was on the field from the first matchday in 2009/10. In total, he came to 35 competitive games for his club during the season, in which he was successful as a goalscorer ten times. After the season he signed a new contract in Saint-Étienne, valid until July 2014. Nevertheless, the 2010/11 season was his last with the club, which he left the following summer.

Breakthrough in Toulouse and Monaco

On July 12, 2011, Toulouse FC announced the commitment of Rivières. There he signed a four-year contract. According to media reports, the transfer fee was around six million euros. At the time, the then 21-year-old was considered by many experts to be one of the greatest French talents and an upcoming national player. He played his first game for his new club on September 17, 2011, when he scored his first goal straight away in the league game against Girondins Bordeaux . Overall, however, the start was mixed, and during the entire first half of the season he only managed one goal. In his first year in Toulouse, he came on 26 missions in which he scored five goals.

The 2012/13 season began for Rivière at his old club Toulouse. There he played throughout the entire row before moving to the ambitious second division club AS Monaco in the winter , where he signed a four and a half year contract. The transfer fee that the club raised is said to have been around four million euros. In the second half of the season Rivière was able to contribute four goals to the club's resurgence, which was realized in summer 2013. In the 2013/14 season, in which the newcomer went with numerous expensive new purchases such as Falcao or João Moutinho , he was mostly part of the team. On August 18, the second match day of the season, Rivière managed the first three-pack of his career.

Move to England

In July 2014 he left Monaco and signed a contract with the English first division club Newcastle United.
