Jérémy Toulalan (born September 10, 1983 in Nantes , France ) is a French football player who was most recently under contract with Girondins Bordeaux .

Career

Toulalan comes from the youth team of FC Nantes , for whom he had his first professional appearance in Ligue 1 in the 2001/02 season . The defensive midfielder soon became a key player and at the end of the 2004/05 season he was voted the best young player in Ligue 1. As a result, the French champions Olympique Lyon became interested in Toulalan and, at the time, offered 10 million euros, more than double the budget of FC Nantes. Despite this, Toulalan stayed at Nantes for another season. It wasn't until the following summer that he decided to move to Lyon. He has since won two French championship titles and a trophy. Toulalan extended in March 2008 to the end of the 2011/12 season.

On June 17, 2011, Málaga FC signed Toulalan. He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2015. With Málaga he successfully participated in the 2012/13 Champions League and was only eliminated in the quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund . The French international has been under contract with AS Monaco since the 2013/14 season until 2015.

For the 2016/17 season , Toulalan joined Girondins Bordeaux . On January 18, 2018, team captain Toulalan announced that he had terminated his contract, which was running out at the end of the season , in solidarity with the dismissed head coach Jocelyn Gourvennec .

National team

Toulalan was nominated on March 1, 2006 for a friendly against Slovakia for the first time for Les Bleus , but without being used. He made his first appearance in the national team on October 11, 2006 in the qualifying match against the Faroe Islands.

At the European Championship finals in 2008 he was part of the French squad . Toulalan played through all three group matches and received a yellow card in their 4-1 defeat against Netherlands . France were disappointed in the group stage as the bottom of the group. At the 2010 World Cup , which also ended disappointingly in terms of sport, Toulalan was one of the central figures of the Bleus in the Knysna fiasco . He was expelled from the national team on August 17, 2010 by the French Federation's disciplinary committee for an international match.
