Jacques Alaixys Romao (born January 18, 1984 in L'Haÿ-les-Roses , France ) is a Togolese football player who also has French citizenship . The midfielder has been under contract with the French first division club Stade Reims since 2018 .

Career

society

The French- born midfielder stayed with his youth club, Toulouse FC until 2004. Romao signed a professional contract for the 2001/02 season, but was hardly ever used. The midfielder then moved to third division club CS Louhans-Cuiseaux in 2004 , where he was promoted to captain. In the summer of 2007 he signed a contract with the second division Grenoble Foot . With the club, he made it to Ligue 1 at the end of the season . The defensive midfielder then made his debut in the top French division on August 9, 2008 in the first game of the season against FC Sochaux . Romao was in the starting eleven in the 2-1 away win and was replaced by Yoric Ravet in the 81st minute . After relegation with Grenoble, he moved to FC Lorient in the summer of 2010 . At FCL Romao immediately played in the regular team. He made his debut for the new club on the first day of the 2010/11 season in a 2-2 draw against AJ Auxerre . The Lorient fans honored his good performance from the start in September when they voted Romao as Player of the Month for August .

National team

After Romao still played for France in his youth , he decided to play for the Togo national football team in the A area . He played his first international match for Togo on August 17, 2005 against the selection of Morocco . Just six months later, the defensive player was in the squad of national coach Stephen Keshi at the 2006 African Cup of Nations . There he came in three possible games for his team to two substitutions and one substitution. Romao made his debut at the Africa Cup of Nations on January 21, 2006 against Congo DR when he was in the starting line-up in the 2-0 defeat. In the summer of the same year Romao was called up again by new trainer Otto Pfister in Togo's squad for its first participation in the World Cup . The midfielder played two games during the tournament. He made his World Cup premiere on June 13, 2006 in a 2-1 draw against South Korea . Over the years Romao has been regularly called to play friendship and qualification matches in his country. The second nomination for the Africa Cup followed in 2010 . On their way to Angola, two days before the start of the tournament, the team was ambushed by the FLEC , a group of freedom fighters who shot at the bus. There were several injuries in the Togolese team. After this incident, the association withdrew its participation in the tournament.
