Boulaye Dia (born November 16, 1996 in Oyonnax ) is a French football player who has been under contract with the first division club Stade Reims since July 2018 .

Club career

Boulaye Dia was born in Oyonnax in the east of France and started playing football for the local PVFC Oyonnax club . As a youth, various larger clubs became aware of him and, for example, he completed several trial training sessions at Olympique Lyon . At OL, he stood out as one of the most talented players and the club subjected him to a carpal bone analysis to determine his future height. The result was that he was considered too small and he was discarded. He did not move to the youth of a top club, but to the U15 team of the amateur club Jura Sud Foot , where he was also able to convince. Due to an illness of his father, however, he soon had to return to his home country and began training as an electrician there in order to be able to contribute to the family income. However, he had not given up his dream of becoming a professional footballer and his former youth coach at Jura Sud brought him back to the team in 2017, which provided him with a three-year contract. There he joined the men's team and in his first season 2017/18 he made his full breakthrough in the fourth-highest French division . Dia scored 15 goals in 21 league games and, as a discovery of the season, again attracted the interest of higher-class clubs.

On June 13, 2018, the striker moved to first division club Stade Reims , where he signed his first professional contract that would tie him to the club until 2021. At rouges et blancs , he started the 2018/19 season in the reserve team Stade Reims II, but was promoted to the first team in October 2018 after good performances and two goals in six league games. On October 20, 2018 (matchday 10), he made his Ligue 1 debut in a 1-1 draw against SCO Angers when he came on for Rémi Oudin in the 83rd minute . In the next league games he was a regular substitute and on November 24 (14th matchday) he scored a goal in the 2-1 home win against EA Guingamp just two minutes after being substituted on. In the second half of the 2018/19 season he started regularly and thus ended the season with 18 league appearances in which he scored three goals and one assist. In the next 2019/20 season he established himself as a regular under head coach David Guion . During this season he played 24 league games in which he scored seven goals.
