The Cameroonian team before the game against Australia

In Group B, Cameroon met South American champions Chile, Asian champions Australia and world champions Germany. Cameroon had never played against Australia before. Before the tournament, there was only one game against Chile that ended in a draw in the 1998 World Cup preliminary round. There was only one competitive game against Germany, which was lost in the 2002 World Cup, with the Cameroonians being trained by the German Winfried Schäfer . There was also one defeat and one draw in friendly matches.

After a defeat against Chile, a draw against Australia and another defeat against Germany, the Cameroonians were eliminated as bottom of the group. In the fourth game against Germany, a Cameroonian was sent off for the third time.
