Tomislav "Tomi" Juric (Croatian spelling: Tomislav Jurić ; born July 22, 1991 in Sydney ) is an Australian-Croatian football player .
Career
society
Juric played in the youth division of Sydney United before he moved to Croatia to Croatia Sesvete at the age of 16 . There the striker scored 12 league goals in 23 appearances in the 2010/11 season, his first in the adult division, and was the top goalscorer of his team in the 2nd HNL . The following season he played for NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in the 1st HNL , in the summer of 2012 he moved within the league to Inter Zaprešić . Juric was only used irregularly for Zaprešić in the first half of the season and was only considered in one of five friendly games during the winter break of the 2012/13 season in a training camp in Turkey. When his agent told him that Australian club Adelaide United were looking for a striker after Sergio van Dijk's departure , Juric decided to return to Australia after five years in Croatia.
At Adelaide he signed a short-term contract for the remainder of the season in February 2013. Juric scored a goal in each of his first two appearances, but then remained in the following five games without scoring when Adelaide ultimately failed in the quarter-finals of the play-offs. For the 2013/14 season Juric signed a two-year contract with the Western Sydney Wanderers , where he meets with Mateo Poljak on a teammate from his time at Lokomotiva.
In mid-August 2015 he then moved to Roda Kerkrade in the Dutch Eredivisie on a free transfer .
On July 1, 2016, he moved to Switzerland for FC Luzern in the Super League, where he signed a contract with an option until the end of June 2018. Juric scored his first goals for Lucerne in a 4-3 home win on July 31, 2016 against Grasshopper Club Zurich , one from penalties and one from head. On March 19, 2018, FC Luzern announced that the contract was automatically extended until the end of June 2019.
National team
At the end of June 2013 Juric was unexpectedly invited by national coach Holger Osieck to a training camp of the Australian national team and was finally nominated for the 2013 East Asian Championship . In the finals, Juric came in the first game against the selection of South Korea (final score 0-0) by late substitution for his international debut . Juric was also substituted on in the second group game and only a few minutes after his substitution in the 3-2 defeat against Japan scored the goal to make it 2-2.
After winning the AFC Champions League with the Western Sydney Wanderers in October 2014, a move to China to Shanghai Shenhua failed. Juric preferred to move to Europe after the end of his contract in summer 2015 so as not to endanger his career in the national team.
The new Australian national coach Ange Postecoglou nominated Tomi Juric for the AFC Asian Cup 2015 in Australia. He was substituted on in the group matches against Kuwait and Oman, where he contributed a goal to make it 4-0. In the last group game against tournament favorites South Korea, coach Postecoglou spared some regular players, the already qualified Australians, for the quarter-finals from the start. Further missions followed in the semifinals and finals, each as a joker. In the final, Juric contributed a large part to the winning goal in extra time, in which he danced two South Korean players with a remarkable solo run. Juric was able to celebrate the title with his "Socceroos" in 1: 2 n. V. against South Korea in the final in front of 76,385 in Sydney.
He was also in the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Australia was eliminated in the preliminary round after two defeats against France and Peru and a draw against Denmark . Juric was used in all three games and was even in the starting XI against Peru.
