Martín Rodríguez , full name Martín Vladimir Rodríguez Torrejon (born August 5, 1994 in Diego de Almagro ), is a Chilean football player . The midfielder has been under contract with the Mexican first division club Monarcas Morelia since 2019 . He is active for the Chilean national team .

Career

societies

Rodríguez started playing football at CD Huachipato and got his first professional contract there. With the team he finished sixth after the league round of the Clausura of the 2012 season. In the playoffs, the team reached the finals against Unión Española . After they lost 3-1 away, the result in the second leg could be reversed, so that the penalty shoot-out had to decide. Huachipato won this 3-2. Rodríguez was not used in the playoffs. With the win, Huachipato had qualified for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2013 , but only finished third behind the two Brazilian clubs Fluminense Rio de Janeiro and Grêmio Porto Alegre . Rodríguez was only used in the 1-1 draw at Fluminense Rio Janeiro. In the transition season 2013, the additional workload became noticeable and Huachipato only took 15th place in the final bill. In April 2014 he reached the final of the Copa Chile with Huachipato , but lost it 1: 3 against Deportes Iquique . As a finalist, the team was qualified for the Copa Sudamericana 2014, but failed again because of a Brazilian club, this time at São Paulo FC in the quarter-finals. Rodríguez was used in all six games. In 2015 he moved to league competitor CSD Colo-Colo , who had won the Apertura 2015 and with whom he participated in the Copa Libertadores 2016 . Rodríguez was used in five of the six group games, after which the team was eliminated as third in the group. With Colo Colo he reached the final of the Copa Chile in 2015 and 2016. While it was lost on penalties in 2015, with him being the only missed shot, it was won in 2016. The 4: 0 against CD Everton de Viña del Mar is one of the four highest final victories of the cup competition (also 4: 0 and two 5: 1). At the beginning of 2017 there was a move to Mexico to CD Cruz Azul . With Azul he reached the semi-finals of the Clausura 2017 Copa MX, which was lost 0-1 to Monarca's Morelia . In 2018 he switched to UNAM Pumas and in January 2020 to Monarcas Morelia.

National team

Rodríguez was first nominated for two friendly matches in September 2014 for the Chilean national soccer team . He made his first appearance in the senior national team on September 10, 2014 in a 1-0 win against Haiti , where he came on in the 66th minute. After that, however, there were initially no further appearances and he was not nominated for the Copa América 2015 in his native Chile or the Copa América Centenario 2016 , which Chile won on penalties against Argentina . On May 19, Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi nominated him for a provisional squad of 17 players to represent Chile at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup . On June 2nd, he was also considered for the entire squad . He was there with only one international match of the Chilean with the fewest internationals, but then came in the three preparatory matches against Burkina Faso , Russia and Romania to further appearances.

Rodríguez (left) in the game against Australia

At the tournament in Russia he was substituted for the first time in the second group game against world champions Germany in the 82nd minute. In the last group game against Australia he came on in the second half when the score was 0: 1. In the 67th minute he scored the equalizer with his first international goal to make it 1-1, with which Chile qualified for the semi-finals. Here he came on in the 86th minute against Portugal and since he failed to score either, after 120 minutes there was a penalty shoot-out . With three of his team-mates converting and goalkeeper Bravo holding three Portuguese penalties, Chile reached the final. Here the Chileans met Germany again, but Rodríguez was not used in the 1-0 defeat. In the following World Cup qualifiers lost against Paraguay and Bolivia , he was not in the squad. The Chileans ultimately missed the World Cup with a 3-0 defeat on the last day of the match against record world champions Brazil.

He was not nominated for the Copa América 2019 .
