Justin Abraham Najmy
Justin Abraham Najmy BA (born April 23, 1898 in Aleppo , Syria , † June 11, 1968 in the USA ) was the first Apostolic Exarch of the United States and a bishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church .
Life
On December 25, 1926 Justin Abraham Najmy was ordained as a religious priest of the Aleppine Basilians (BA). He was posted to the United States and served as a pastor at St. Basil the Great in Central Falls . The appointment as Patriarchal Exarch of the USA at the same time appointed titular bishop of Augustopolis in Phrygia he received on January 27, 1966. Archbishop Athanasios Toutoungi of Aleppo ordained him, together with the co-consecrators Archbishop Maximos V Hakim and Archbishop Paul Achkar , on May 29, 1966 bishop. Under his direction the Church of the Annunciation was built in a suburb of Boston . He died on June 11, 1968 of sudden heart failure and was buried in the parish cemetery of the Church of St. Basil the Great in Cumberland, Rhode Island . Archbishop Joseph Elias Tawil was his successor .
