^ Division 1 1986/87 |
The Division 2 1986/87 was the 48th of the second highest French football league . It has been an open championship with professionals and amateurs since 1970. The game was played from August 8, 1986 to May 23, 1987; There was a particularly long winter break from mid-December to mid-February.
Second division champion was Montpellier La Paillade SC .
societies
The 28 clubs that had not been promoted to the first division or relegated to the third division (national) or lower after the previous season were eligible to participate ; there were also two first division relegated and six promoted from the national . These 36 participants played in two groups, divided mainly according to regional criteria (one with teams from the north and west and one with teams from the south and east). So this season the following teams played for the division 2 championship : Relegated promoted
- Group A: US Dunkerque , US Valenciennes-Anzin , SC Abbeville , AS Beauvais-Marissel , promoted SC Amiens , AS Red Star , Stade Reims , promoted CO Saint-Dizier , relegated Racing Strasbourg , FC Mulhouse , SM Caen , Stade Quimper , EA Guingamp , SCO Angers , FC Tours , US Orléans , Chamois Niort , promoted AEPB La Roche-sur-Yon
- Group B: FC Limoges , newly promoted FC Bourges , FC Montceau , FC Gueugnon , promoted CS Cuiseaux-Louhans , CO Le Puy , Olympique Lyon , CS Thonon , AS Béziers , FC Sète , Montpellier La Paillade SC , Olympique Alès , Olympique Nîmes , FC Martigues , Istres Sports , AS Cannes , relegated SEC Bastia , promoted Gazélec FCO Ajaccio
Only the first in the group were eligible for direct promotion. In addition, there was a relegation between the worst-placed first division team, who was not directly relegated , and the best second division team, who was not directly eligible for promotion.
Season course
Each team played a return match against each group opponent, once in front of their own audience and once away. The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement. In France, when specifying the point ratio, only the number of plus points is given; here this is done in the notation used in Germany at the time of the 2-point rule.
For both Division 1 relegated Strasbourg and Bastia it was only enough for a place in the middle of the table; but with Amiens - the SC had developed into a real "elevator team" between Division 2 and National since the beginning of the 1970s - and Bourges only two of the six previous year's climbers had to go straight back to the third division. This lot struck Red Star, one of the great traditional French clubs, albeit not for the first time in its club history, and with AS Béziers a club whose footballer had belonged to the D2 for 40 seasons since the end of the Second World War and just like that bankrupt Limoges FC should not play in this league for more than a quarter of a century. But with Chamois Niort, another club from central western France even managed to get promoted to the first division at this level at the end of its second year.
1,495 hits were scored in the 612 matches; this corresponds to an average of 2.44 goals per game. The most successful goal scorers in Group A were Zvonko "Tony" Kurbos from Mulhouse with 22 and in Group B Gaspard N'Gouete (Bastia) with 21 goals; the league top scorer thus won Kurbos. For the following season , relegated from Division 1 , FC Sochaux , AS Nancy and Stade Rennes were added; from the third highest league teams rose directly, namely FC Rouen , Entente Melun-Fontainebleau , FC Lorient , SO Châtellerault , CL Dijon and FC Grenoble-Dauphiné .

Relegation
The group second and third fought in a two-stage elimination which of them against the first division 18. FC Sochaux was allowed to play for another promotion place in the top division. First, the two runners-up in a single game each met the third of the other group; Cannes prevailed against Caen 2-1 and Lyon against Mulhouse 4-3 and then met - now again in a two-way leg. The team from the Côte d'Azur won their home game 1-0 and were content with a 1-1 draw in Lyon.
Then Sochaux won his home game 1-0, and Cannes won 2-0 in front of their own audience, so that the latter rose to Division 1 as the third second division .
