US Nœux-les-Mines

US Nœux-les-Mines is a French football club from Nœux-les-Mines . The first team plays in the eighth division in the 2007/08 season.

The club, founded in 1909, celebrated its most successful period between 1976 and 1982 with coach Gérard Houllier , after he was promoted to the French second division in 1976 as the champion of the northern group of Division 3 . After relegation, the team won the championship again in 1979 and played in 1981 as group runner-up in the northern group of Division 2 for promotion to the first division . After the playoffs against FC Toulouse (2-0 and 0-5), however, Nœux-les-Mines stayed in Division 2 and even had to return to third division the following year.

Raymond Kopa played in the club as a youth and was already used in the first team at the age of 16. Also Kopas later Rheims team-mate Simon Zimny previously played at US Nœux-les-Mines. The league eleven was trained by ex-national player Jean Batmale for almost two years shortly after the Second World War .
