The MMArena is a football stadium in Le Mans in the Sarthe department , France . From 2011 to 2013 it was the home of Le Mans FC , which is currently competing in the CFA2 (5th division). After its forced relegation to the amateur field, it is no longer home to a club, but is still used by Le Mans FC if there are enough spectators. The MMArena is the first French stadium whose naming rights have been sold to a sponsor. The insurance company Mutuelles du Mans Assurances pays first a lump sum of 3 million euros and thereafter each year one million euros over a period of ten years.
history
The then football club Le Mans UC 72 rose to Ligue 1 in 2005 . This made a new stadium in Le Mans necessary, as the old stadium Stade Léon-Bollée was over 100 years old (opened in 1906); it no longer met modern requirements and could no longer be expanded due to lack of space. In early 2006, the architect Bernard Huet presented his design to the public. The stadium project envisaged a capacity of 25,000 seats for football. In addition, the stadium can hold up to 40,000 spectators for concerts. In addition to football, rugby games could also be played, and the stadium has already been used by the American Football Club Caïmans 72. For the games in the Division d'Honneur , the football club - now renamed Le Mans FC - moved to the Le Clos-Fleuri stadium, which has a capacity of 5,000. The southern part of the roof is transparent so that the natural lawn of the playing field can get more daylight. A hotel is also integrated into the stadium .
The MMArena is located in the Complexe Sud de Mulsanne , next to the Antarès multi-purpose hall , where the Le Mans Sarthe Basket basketball team plays. The area also includes the Circuit Karting Alain Prost go- kart track , a cycling track and a horse racing track . Also the Circuit des 24 Heures , where the famous Le Mans 24-hour race is held, and the Bugatti circuit , where the French Grand Prix (motorcycle) and the Le Mans 24-hour motorcycle race are held to be found there in the area. On October 1, 2010, the new home of Le Mans FC received its playing surface made of natural grass .
On June 5, 2012, the French men's national football team celebrated an undisputed 4-0 win against Estonia in preparation for EURO 2012 at its premiere in the MMArena .
