The Stade Léon-Bollée was a football stadium in the French city of Le Mans in the Sarthe department , Pays de la Loire region . After construction began in 1904, it was opened in 1906. The Le Mans FC (2010: UC Le Mans 72 ) carried out its games here. Most recently it offered 17,801 spectators. It owes its name to the French automobile pioneer Léon Bollée .
After UC Le Mans rose to Ligue 2 in 1988 , the stadium was renovated. 2004 Le Mans rose to Ligue 1 ; whereupon the venue was rebuilt again. The attendance record was set up on November 5, 2005 in the game UC Le Mans against Olympique Marseille (3-0) with 16,531 spectators.
As a further expansion of the stadium was not possible due to the surrounding sports facilities and residential buildings, a new stadium was built. On August 18, 2008, work began on the MMArena . The opening took place on January 29, 2011. The new arena has 25,000 seats and cost € 104 million .
After the move of Le Mans FC, the stadium lay fallow and overgrown. In February 2012, part of the grandstands was demolished.
