Dominique Franceschi (born March 10, 1921 in Marseille , † April 3, 2001 ibid) was a French football player .

Career

The midfielder Franceschi began his career with the team of the Thiers district high school in Marseille; then he ran for a club called Gallia . In 1940 he went to the big city club Olympique Marseille during the Second World War , where he was initially intended for the reserve team. From 1941 to 1942 he had to work for the military unit Chantiers de la jeunesse française of the Vichy regimedo his service and then returned to football. From then on he was a member of the first team that took part in the unofficial staging of the first division due to the war, but was initially not used at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible. On January 1, 1943, he made his debut in a 1-1 draw against USA Perpignan in the de facto top French division; two days later he made his goal debut in a 3: 3 against Toulouse FC , scoring all three goals for Marseille. This was followed by some league appearances, even if he missed the national cup final in 1943 , in which his teammates were able to win the trophy with a 4-0 win in the replay.

In the 1943/44 season, the championship was not held by clubs, but by Équipes fédérales , with Franceschi belonging to the one named Marseille-Provence . He also played there regularly, if not as a regular player, and returned to Olympique Marseille in 1944, which from then on again participated in the championship. After a second half of 1944, in which he did not get beyond a contested game, he made his breakthrough as a regular player in the spring of 1945. After regular game operations were resumed in 1945, he played his first official first division game on August 25, 1945 in a 6-2 win against RC Paris . Some time later he dropped out of the starting XI before he was able to secure a permanent place again in 1946. In the course of the 1947/48 season he played hardly a role and played on October 5, 1947 in a 2-2 draw against Red Star Paris, his last of 32 official first division games in which he had scored three goals; there are also 32 unofficial first division games with twelve goals. This last encounter secured him a membership in the French championship team in 1948, although he had already moved to the second division club Lyon Olympique Universitaire in the further course of the season . In 1950 he ended his professional career.
