Armand Liberati (born January 27, 1923 in Blida , Algeria , † January 2, 2016 in Luynes, district of Aix-en-Provence ) was a French football goalkeeper .

Career

The 182 centimeter tall goalkeeper Liberati lived as a young adult in French-occupied Algeria, where he played for a club from his hometown of Blida. From there he managed to move to main France in 1946 when he was signed by the first division club Olympique Marseille . At Marseille he was directly in the first team as number one in the gate and reached on August 25, 1946 in a 1: 2 defeat against AS Cannes, his first division and thus his professional debut. From then on he remained an integral part of a team with which he was able to win the French championship in 1948. However, you could not build on this success and it came to a slide into the middle of the table. In addition, Liberati, who never made it into the national team of his country, was pushed out of the gate at the beginning of the 1951/52 season and had to be content with the role of substitute. He saw how his teammates saved themselves extremely close from relegation in 1952. On May 3, 1953, he played a last first division game in the shirt of Marseille in a 1: 3 defeat against OGC Nice , before he found a new employer in the neighboring second division AS Aix in the summer of the same year .

At Aix he took over during the 1953/54 season the role of goalkeeper at a club that found itself in the midfield of the second-highest division. In 1954 he moved to league rivals FC Grenoble . There he was again set between the posts, but decided in 1955 at the age of 32 after 140 first division games and 64 second division games to end his career. He then did not perform any other function in football. Libérati died in 2016 shortly before his 93rd birthday in the Aix-en-Provence village of Luynes .
